FAQ's

Why do I need a Level 2 charger? Doesn't my car just plug into a regular outlet?

Speed. A Level 2 (220 volt) charger can fully charge your vehicle in around 4 hours (depending on model), where a Level 1 (110 volt) can take up to 16 hours. It's always a good idea to keep the charger included with your car handy for traveling, but for regular home use a Level 2 is recommended.

Is the charging unit dangerous? I have young children

All units we install are certified, meaning their reliability and safety are documented. The cord coming from your charging unit is “dead” until it is plugged into your car and receives the “go-ahead” to send electricity, so no worries about accidentally getting shocked.

How long will my charging unit last? And will it be obsolete as fast as my cell phone?

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has published a standard connector (SAE J1772), so all brands of chargers work with all cars. There will almost certainly be rapid advances in charging unit technology – communication, remote monitoring, etc - but the fundamental charging system will most likely remain unchanged in the future.

Where should I put my charger?

Most people opt to have the charger installed in the garage. Most manufacturers have included a lengthy power cable, so there is some room to work with when placing the charging unit. Outside installations are sometimes an option, if the charger is built for it.

What is considered a “Standard Installation”?

A Standard Installation is defined as
• Distance of 35' or less between charger install location and panel box
• Attached garage or outside installation (no trenching)
• Adequate service capacity to handle additional load from charger

What if my installation requires additional work to complete?

Our team of electricians come prepared for most situations, and can often quote and complete the additional work immediately. Additional charges can be handled directly with your on-site electrician, or through our website. Financing options are also available.

How long will my installation take?

It's impossible to give an answer here online, but our electrician will be able to give you a good estimate after the on-site assessment. Most standard installations are completed same day.
